THE Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and leader of Oodua People’s Congress OPC, Chief Gani Adams has warned against the unremitted killings currently going on in the South-West Nigeria saying if the spate of the onslaught perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen and sundry criminality was not addressed, the Yoruba as a nation would have no other option than to fight back. A visibly angry former OPC warlord spoke on Friday moments after the news of the killing of Barrister Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, leader of Afinifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group hit the airwaves. Chief Adams who was apparently sounding a war note to the entire country while condoling with Pa Fasoranti however, expressed optimism that those perpetrators of the dastardly act would be brought to book. Adams’ reaction came even as the Inspector-General of Police IGP Mohammed A. Adamu has swiftly assured Nigerians that the Police under his watch would not rest on its oars until killers of the Yoruba sage’s daughter were brought to justice. The Police helmsman informed that a detachment of crack investigators from the Intelligence Response Team IRT, Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department FCIID, Technical Intelligence Unit TIU in addition to the already existing conventional Police operatives in Ondo State Command had been mandated to unravel those behind the heinous act. But reacting to the gruesome murder of the 58 year old lawyer, Adams who spoke through his media aide, Kehinde Aderemi said, “We are like the proverbial goat that is being chased, when it gets to the wall, it will certainly react. We are at that stage now. We only want the whole world to know what has been done and being done to our people. They should be aware of the actions that preceded our reaction when it eventually comes.” He described the murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunri as one too many saying there had been meetings of Yoruba leaders including governors for some time now since it became clear that Fulani herdsmen had invaded South-West forests, kidnapping, robbing and killing Yoruba natives; adding, “We are not bereft of ideas of how to stop this criminality on our land. It is just so that we should not be blamed when the reaction comes.”

In the meantime, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed A. Adamu has assured the nation that the killers of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasorantin will certainly be found and made to face the full weight of the Law. A statement signed by the Force image maker DCP Frank Mba and made available to CrimeWorld while commiserating with the Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group’s leader said, “The IGP notes that the Ondo State Police Command, backed by Special Forces and seasoned investigators from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) deployed from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on his directives, have already commenced a massive manhunt for the killers with a view to tracking, arresting and bringing them to justice. While condemning the heinous and barbaric crime, the IGP, as part of measures to prevent a future occurrence of such incidence, has ordered the total overhaul of security architecture on the highways straddling the Southern part of the country. In this vein, the Commissioners of Police in the affected States were ordered by the IGP to ensure adequate security arrangement in their areas of jurisdiction (AOR). He equally assures the nation that the Force Headquarters has perfected plans to replicate the special security arrangement powered by “Operation Puff Adder” currently ongoing in Kaduna- Abuja expressway in key highways in the Southern part of the country. The IGP further reiterates the fact that the Force will not rest on its oars until sanity is restored in every nook and crannies of the country. He therefore, calls for calm and support from all Nigerians, especially residents of Ondo State, in aid of the current investigation.”
