Sources said some yet to be ascertained hoodlums had invaded the transformer station about two weeks ago and carted away the transformer cable during an outage in the area. According to sources, some members of the community promptly alerted relevant section of Ikeja Electricity company which visited the scene and took inventory of what was stolen; adding that they later came back and demanded that the community bears the cost of a new cable before power would be restored. However, the community alleged that even after paying the demanded sum, they were still in darkness as officials of the electricity company only came to weld the vandalized gate of the station and left. A resident of the community who simply identified himself as Hon. Wasiu, is passionately appealing to the electricity company to restore light to the community especially, now that Christmas is around the corner. He said, “All we are asking for is NEPA or EKEDC they call them to please restore light to our community. Christmas is around the corner, children needs light to watch their favourite programs on TV. We buy fuel every day to provide alternative light to our respective homes and it’s telling on us. Aside this, those bad boys might soon begin to cash in on the blackout and unleash terror on defenceless residents; that’s why we begging for an urgent restoration of light for us.”
