Oluwo carpets Buhari on anti- corruption crusade, says govt playing the ostrich

LAGOS– FIRST class Oba, His Royal Majesty, Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo land, has taken a swipe at the President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s anti- corruption crusade, saying the government was only paying lip service to the fight.

The Royal father spoke Thursday at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja Lagos at the occasion of the annual Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria CRAN lecture and award series. This year’s event which marked the 30th anniversary of the association was themed “proliferation of drugs, bane of insecurity”

The intrepid and highly revered traditional ruler wants the Federal government to do more in the fight against corruption and corrupt practices than dancing to the gallery.

He therefore, advocated for a death sentence for any political office holder found culpable to corruption and life jail for an accomplice; adding, “It is sad and shameful altogether that this administration that came into office with the mantra of fighting corruption to a standstill is only paying lip service to this monster that has permeated every facet of our lives.

“This is the sixth year into this administration yet not a single political office holder or civil servant has been jailed for corruption or related offence. This is not only painful but shameful altogether. The truth must be said.”

Continuing, the traditional ruler who doubles as the grand patron of CRAN lamented the fanfare with which ill-gotten wealth was being glorified saying, it smacks of moral and cultural decadence.

“We have to go back to our age-long culture of questioning how people get rich overnight; otherwise, we are going nowhere in the quest for a corrupt free society. Our moral ethos has gone decay and this has to be revived if we must achieve a headway.”

Earlier in his address of welcome, President of the association Mr. Odita Sunday called for synergy with security agencies in the country to fight the menace of drugs and other psychotropic substance abuse and sundry crime and criminalities.

While lamenting the rate at which security personnel were being felled by the enemies’ bullets Mr. Sunday informed that award to deserving awardees especially, those in the security sector was CRAN’s way of showing appreciation for these personnel who risk their lives daily at the expense of the teeming populace.
