LAGOS- MRS. Blessing Adeniran, the aggrieved mother of the Chrisland School Opebi, Ikeja Lagos student, Miss Whitney Adeniran who was reported to have slumped and died at the Agege Stadium, venue of the school’s Inter House Sports, has accused the school management of sheer negligence in her daughter’s. The distraught mother who was spotted weeping profusely on her facebook handle informed that the school could not provide any first aid medical equipment for students who were at the stadium for the Inter House Sports in any case of emergency. She picked hole in the narrative that her daughter might be a sicklier who slumped and died on the pitch adding that Miss Whitney had no medical history of life threatening illness prior to her death. To her, there something the school authority was not telling her and vowed that she would do all within her reach to ensure justice for her late daughter.
She said, “My name is Mrs. Blessing Adeniran, the mother of the girl in question. She is my first child. February 9 2023 was their inter-house sports day. She had breakfast before leaving the house, I made the breakfast that morning. I was at the stadium personally much earlier that day because my daughter had accused me last year that I did not attend their Inter House Sports, that I didn’t come to witness her match past, I apologized that it was because I was busy, and that was why I had to attend this year’s. But while the event was one I checked and I couldn’t see her during the match past. I was worried. I called the driver and he told me that Whitney was on the pitch that I will see her. So I dashed out to pick something and I saw a vehicle sped passed me at a neck breaking speed and I was like, why would somebody be driving like this. When I came back, I checked everywhere but didn’t see her so I went to some people were standing and the man there told me that parents were barred from entering there but I apologized and he allowed me.
I saw a boy and asked if he saw Whitney and the boy told that one girl that fell was called Whitney but can’t say if it was my Whitney. I brought out my phone and showed the guy her picture and he said yes this was the girl that fell down here and I said what happened to her, she didn’t do anything strenuous, who took her to the hospital, no doctor, no ambulance no medical personnel, there was no emergency provision on ground in a place where you have about 500 students, in a place where you have over a hundred parents, in place where insecurity is so high. You kept our children in that field with no proper medical arrangements, no any emergency provision. When the boy said it was the school bus that took I said, o, was it my daughter that was being driven at a such a speed that I saw that time, I ran out and saw one of their staff coming to me and said oh, mummy Whitney we have been looking for you she was so calm and casual, Whitney fell, I said I leant she fell, she said don’t worry she will be fine she has been taken to the hospital and I said ok, let us go to the hospital.

We searched everywhere for the Agege Central Hospital to no avail. Eventually, I saw their school bus packed by the Central Mosque and I dashed out of the vehicle and saw a health center, I asked the driver, where is my daughter he told me she was inside. I went in there and met my daughter’s corpse, she was already dead when I got there and I saw her she was already dead. All these happened in less than 10 minutes. And I asked the doctor, what happened to my daughter, and she said, emm… madam, from the way I am seeing it, it was cardiac arrest. And I was like cardiac what? My daughter was 12, she was 12 in October 30th last year.
How does a 12 year old have cardiac arrest, no pre existing heart condition. If she was sick I would never have allowed her to leave the house. If had even complained of even slight headache, I would never have allowed her to leave the house. But she was not sick, she was looking forward to the inter house sports. I said why should my daughter die, why would one cardiac arrest kill a 12 year child. She never had stroke, nothing how could she have died that way. And let me say this, by the time I got to the hospital, my daughter’s lips had already gone black, her tongue had already gone black. I jacked her by her shirt she was flopping, she was flopping. I kept crying what happened to my child this is the first fruit of my womb, I had never been pregnant, in the 7 years of my marriage I could not get pregnant, what happened to my daughter, I didn’t get an answer. And let me say this, my child was not taken to a hospital, she was taken to an immunization center.
Still fighting tears, Mrs. Adeniran added, “That is not even my pain, my pain is that there was not proper first aid management on ground, there was management on ground, she was brought to the hospital dead. And when the certificate came out it was written dead on arrival. I have been asking Chrisland since on Thursday what happened to my child nobody have been able to give me an answer. I told them I don’t want to open up my child for autopsy, I want to bury her and let her soul rest in peace, please tell me what happened to my child. They are not saying anything to me o, they are saying oh, she slumped, oh she slumped and I was like, how? Parents have been calling oh, mummy Whitney we are sorry we learnt from the school authority that she was a sicklier, my child a sicklier. Can you imagine that? Me and my husband, we placed our children on a priority, if she had complained of slight headache, I would never have allowed her to go to school.
They are telling me to take things in my stride, how, how many children do I have that I would play with the health of one. How would I take things in my stride when my child died out of carelessness, there was no medical doctor on ground at the stadium, no ambulance, no trained medical personnel? IGP if you are a father, come and rescue me, LASUTH, my daughter is in you mortuary please you people should help me unravel the cause of the death of my daughter. Chrisland, what happened to Adetola Adeniran? But I know you people will answer me, even if takes the last blood of my life, you will answer me. Even before I breathe my last, you will tell me what happened to Adetola. All this your story that she slumped is a lie, I nor gree. Wetin una do my daughter una neva talk…”
