LAGOS- THE Supreme Council of Eze Ndigbo Lagos, the media arm of Eze Ndigbo general has given reason why the Igbos resident in Lagos were subjects of verbal and physical attacks during the just concluded general elections. The body which is headed by a journalist and former broadcaster with the Channels Television, Eze Dr. Vincent Iwobi said the attacks and segregation were more of self inflicted noting that some gullible persons of Igbo extraction who had no bearings went behind the genuine umbrella body of all Ndigbos in Lagos to collect money from the Governor of the state and failed to deliver votes for them.
Eze Iwobi who is the Eze Ndigbo Shasha and doubles as the Obi Anioma, told CrimeWorld magazine online that months preceding the elections, the genuine Eze Ndigbo met with the Governor of the State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and assured him of their support only for this fake Eze Ndigbo to turn around and met him again and lied that they were represent the genuine body and collected huge sums of money from him without fulfilling their own side of the bargain. Dr. Iwobi who is also the Vice President of the Council was flanked by other Ezes including, Eze Chukwu Akalika Madu, Eze Ndigbo Oriade, Jude Nnaemeka Arinze, Eze Ndigbo Okota/Isolo, Dr. John Nwosu, Eze Ndigbo and Asiwaju Ndigbo Mushin and Chukwuemeka Sylvanus Onuaha, Eze Ndigbo Iba while addressing newsmen.

According to him, “The activities preceding the Presidential and National Assembly elections saw us meeting with His Excellency, Governor Babjide Sanwo Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos state. During our meeting with him, we assured him of our unflinching support as Ndi Igbo in Lagos. However, another body who called themselves Eze Ndigbo of Lagos, the stooges of the likes of Joe Igbokwe went to the Governor that they were representing us and collected money from him with the promise also to deliver votes to the APC in the state. However, the outcome of the elections did not only shock the Governor, he was equally embarrassed before his godfather the Asiwaju, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who felt he did not do the needful. So when the Governorship elections came, he had no alternative than to summon all the traditional rulers (Baales) and other stakeholders to start unleashing mayhem on the Igbos unknown to him that it is not the genuine umbrella body of the Eze Ndigbo that he dealt with. This is the major cause of the hatred, segregation and attacks that you saw during and after the elections.”
Eze Dr, Iwobi who expressed worries and disgust over the arrest and incarceration of the Eze Ndigbo of Ibesha riverrine area said there couldn’t have any other thing more debasing to arrested and detained an Eze who was beaten by Yoruba thugs for venturing out to exercise his civic right of voting by the Police. He there called on the Governor to quickly wade into the matter and have the detained Eze Chinedu Mozie released without further delay. “We passionately appeal that His Excellency the Executive Governor of Lagos State Babajide Olusoal Sanwo-Olu to treat this matter with the urgency it demands to avoid further breakdown of law and order,” he said.
