THE murder of former political Adviser to President Good luck Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak Sunday, in the troubled Imo State has raised more questions than answer. Whereas, it might be premature to assert the real reason behind the now All Progressives Congress APC stallwart’s murder, feelers point to the fact that he may have been trailed to the state and killed to give an illusion that hoodlums in the Independent People of Biafra IPOB were behind the dastardly act.
Already, the group had distanced self from the murder. Whereas, Ahmed Gulak was murdered in Imo state there is strong indication that his death might have been premeditated and hatched by his traducer (s) in such a neutral ground to stir up ethnic animosity. “His killers didn’t know him, they asked if he was Ahmed Gulak and he said yes before they shot him.
He was not alone in the car. If it was a bandits attack, they have no business coming down to ask questions before taking action. All they needed to do would be to spray the car having identified it. So you can see his murder was planned by those who wanted him dead,” opined a security source. Findings revealed that the deceased was in the state where he had a marathon closed door meeting with the governor, Hope Uzodimma before retiring to his hotel room.
Further checks coupled with a trending video revealed a no love lost between the now deceased Gulak and the National Security Adviser NSA to Mr. President, Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd) who he (Gulak) accused of being inept in his duty, corrupt and the arrow head behind the nation’s insecurity. He went further to call for his removal and prosecution; challenging him, Monguno to fault the weighty allegation he (Gulak) leveled against him. But the presidency has condemned the murder in strong term vowing to unearth Perpetrators in no distance time.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the President, Garuba Shehu which conveyed the President’s sadness and condemnation of the act assured that the killers would be brought to justice. “I’m repulsed by such premeditated and gruesome murder of Gulak by evil people who are determined to undermine the peace, unity and territorial integrity of our country. Let me warn, however, that nobody or group of people who engages in such despicable acts should expect to go free. We will deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure that such callous and criminal elements are brought to justice,” the statement stressed.

Already, the Imo State Police Command has assured that it was looking beyond the scope state’s Investigation vowing also to crack down the killers. A statement signed by the PPRO, SP Balla Elkana and made available to CrimeWorld magazine online said the deceased left his hotel room for the airport without police information and knowledge adding that the killers identified him before raining bullets on him. According to Elkana, “On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hrs, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmed Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight.
Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular. He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport.
The Commissioner of Police Imo CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special forces have been deployed to cordone the area and arrest perpetrators.”
But the Northern youths have threatened reprisal if within the ultimatum given to the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma was not met. A statement to that effect obtained by CrimeWorld magazine online quoted the President of the group, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu as saying much as the north would not be dragged into participating in the glaring second civil war, the continued safety of Igbos in the North could not be guaranteed. He said, “It is now an open secret that they want and are pushing for another civil war in Nigeria.
They want to provoke the North to retaliate by attacking the Igbos in the North. By this action, IPOB is using human life to set a trap which we will not fall into. The North should not and will not fall into it. The Government should rise up to this occasion and do the needful.
No region, individual or group of individuals should have monopoly of violence. Perhaps our quest for a peaceful coexistence in Nigeria should not be taken or treated as an act of cowardice. Notwithstanding, we in Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) can no longer guarantee the security of life and properties of any Igbo extraction in the North as the madness of the IPOB members is getting out of hand. Just of recent, a Northerner working with the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) posted to the same IMO state was killed in the state while his corpse was brought to Kaduna and buried according to Islamic rites. A stitch in time saves nine.
A dark cloud is fast gathering momentum in Nigeria. Government should rise up to the occasion by arresting the situation before it becomes too late. Enough of the IPOB madness”!
