NEWLY deployed Commissioner of Police of Delta State Police Command, CP Mohammed Ali has obviously drawn a battle line between the Police and criminal elements in the state as the evolving scenario clearly suggests. In less than one month of assumption of office, CP Ali who was behind the huge successes recorded by three Commissioners of Police in Lagos state where he held sway as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations DCOMPOL Ops, has recorded unprecedented feat in the fight against crimes and criminality in the state. In a maiden briefing where he showcased his modest achievements in the onslaught against crimes in the state, the award winning crime buster extra-ordinaire admitted the enormity of criminality peculiar to Delta State but was however, quick to add that they were not insurmountable. He therefore, enjoins the media to abhor ‘beer-parlour journalism’ so as to endear the Police to the people and of course, engender a serene socio-economic environment for the good people of the state. CP Ali said, “It is with great pleasure that I address you today on the achievements made by the Command since my assumption of Office as the Commissioner of Police. In the course of taking over from my predecessor and interactions with my management team, I was briefed on the plethora of peculiar security challenges in the State and inadequate logistics which is hampering effective service delivery. This is in addition to the seemingly low morale of officers arising from the #EndSARS protest. Having received a full brief on the challenges facing officers in the Command and the trend in criminalities in the State, my assignment to provide adequate security for the good people of Delta State was clearly cut-out. Although, the challenges are obvious and enormous, they are nevertheless not insurmountable. Ladies and gentlemen, may I thank you for finding time to attend this press briefing and enjoin you to play your civic role as a responsive citizens to verify your information before going to the press and publicize the activities of the Command in a manner that will endear the police to the public.”
*The suspects and items recovered from them…
Clearing the air on the sad auto-crash at PTI Junction Effurun barely two days of assumption of office which claimed the lives of a middle-aged woman and a baby and which led to the attack on Policemen who raced to the scene on a rescue mission but rumoured to have caused the accident the Police chief said, “As you are aware, on the 20th of January, 2021, Traffic Policemen from Ebrumede Divisional Police Headquarters were attacked while discharging their constitutional duties of investigating a fatal motor accident. The resultant effect of that mob attack was the burning down of police patrol vehicle. That ugly incident was subsequently recorded and posted online to put the Command in bad light. The intention of the author of that sensational online publication was to provoke public anger and resentment against the police. With all sense of responsibilities, may I announce to you that the prime suspect who orchestrated the unprovoked attack on the policemen including the author of the fake and malicious online publication, one Onoriode Oyiborhoro, male, were arrested. Accordingly, they will all have their days in court to answer charges against them as soon as investigations are concluded.”
Continuing, the number one Policeman in the state said that he had already institutionalised a distinct policing model in the minds of his officers and men in which case, they were to see themselves as divine servants of the people, liaise with stakeholders on teething issues and carry out their civic responsibilities with human face. “In my maiden conference with the Officers of the Command, I charged them to see our calling as selfless and divine. In the discharge of their duties, team work, strategic partnership and cooperation with all stakeholders should be explored for result oriented policing. On this premise of involving the Communities in policing, I have been embarking on tour of police formation/commands to engage Traditional Rulers, Opinion Leaders and Stakeholders to cement the existing relationship and Court a new one in a partnership that would open a new vista in the community policing architecture in the State. Let me assure Deltans that policing the State under my watch will be a responsible one in accordance with the dictates of the laws and respect to the fundamental human right of the citizens;” attributing the successes recorded in the period under review to “Re-enforced/pro-active anti-crime strategies in the enforcement of law and order without infringing on the rights of citizens which will continue to be the hallmark for a more-friendly and result-oriented policing. This maiden press briefing is one way of informing the public on the activities of the Command and efforts being made to ensure a peaceful Delta State.”
