THERE are great concerns over the health of Corps members as no fewer than 732 members of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC batch B, have tested positive for COVID-19. This revelation was made Tuesday, January 5, 2021 by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force PTF on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha. Briefing the nation, Boss informed that the COVID-19 test was conducted on the corps members using Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDTs); adding, “Out of the 35,419 in the Batch B, 731 tested positives compared to 108 recorded during the Batch A.” According to him, the cases were recorded from corps members from every state of the federation.
Recall that about138 corps members reportedly tested positive to COVID-19 about two months forcing the NYSC camps for orientation activities to an abrupt closure. It was reopened recently when it was noticed that the pandemic had reduced tremendously. With the present result, it is not too clear whether government would be forced to shut down NYSC orientation camp activities for the meantime.
