BARELY one month after the Police discovered an illegal distillery where various fake spirits and highly priced gins were produced in Mushin area of Lagos, another factory illegally distilling malt drinks and Guinness Stout has been discovered in Ikorodu area of the state.  Five persons have been arrested in connection with the criminal act. The Police also recovered drums of finished malt drinks and Guinness Stout awaiting evacuation to their various distributors across the country for final consumption were recovered and seized. The Commissioner of Police CP Imohim Edgal who led newsmen to the factory in Igbogbo Bayeku area, a hamlet in Ikorodu community ascribed the discovery to the beauty of community- partnership led policing of the present Police administration in the country. The Police boss who described the brewers as smart in their crimes said the factory was built behind a residential building to conceal their criminality adding that the distillers were not qualified to carry out the activities of distilling malt drinks following the half hazard and unkempt manners of placement of their distilling drums in which were found some dead and bloated reptiles and other rodents.  A visibly elated Edgal intoned:  “You will recall that recently, an elderly man who was selling all sorts of fake drinks in Mushin was arrested. I am calling on Lagosians to be vigilant and to pass information, promptly, to their local Police, to ensure we identify places like this and destroy them because Lagosians can only be productive if they are healthy and most people who drink these things that are produced in unhygienic environment cannot be healthy. The place is not National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC-certified and the operators are not qualified to do so. This means that they are giving Lagosians poison. What is most worrisome is that they are bottling and canning it as if they are produced by reputable companies that deal on the product. We are going to take samples of each of the various fake drinks being concocted here to NAFDAC and DNA labs for verification after which we shall commence prosecution of the suspects.”
