BARING the outcome of the orderly room trials of two Police Inspectors and three Sergeants attached to the dreaded Federal Anti Robbery Squad FSARS, Ipakodo Base Lagos; may be on their way out of the Nigeria Police Force for an alleged barefaced professional misconduct. The erring officers who had been identified as Inspectors Taiwo Omojope, Arigidi Ebibor, Sergeants Rotimi Adesola, Olalekan Olakunle and Friday Oni were alleged to have accosted one Ibe Anyanwu, a Lagos based businessman moments after he came out of Zenith bank along Ago Palaceway, Okota and demanded that he submitted himself for a search.  A rather shocked Ibe was reported to have told the Policemen that he was businessman with an office on Lagos Island adding that he only came to do some transactions in Okota because he lives there.  His explanation was said to have fallen on deaf ears as the resolute officers insisted on searching his vehicles and all documents found on him.  He obliged them. But having searched without seeing anything incriminating sources said the officers reportedly demanded for bribe before he would be allowed to go. According to sources, a distraught Ibe had to call the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti to speak to his men so they could allow him go about his lawful business but that request was turned down by the officers who insisted that it was either Ibe go with or cough out some money for them.  It was further informed that when it was clear that the officers would not bulge, Ibe entered the bank on the pretence that he was going to withdraw some money for them only to sneak into the toilet of the bank and sent an SOS on the social media which immediately went viral. Meanwhile, Ibe was said to have remained in the toilet while the Police who noticed that the PRO may have alerted a team of X-Squad left the area and hibernated at a strategic location monitoring Ibe.  But when Ibe was not forthcoming, the officers reportedly removed his plate number and left even before a team of X-Squad could arrive the scene. Officials of the bank who later noticed that a customer was still in their toilet even after the close of working hour, ordered Ibe to leave to go and face whatever he had to settle with the law enforcement agents.

In the meantime, the initial impression was the team of the officers was led by one Inspector Jude Akhoyemta and that the team was attached to the FSARS Ikeja. But the Command’s image maker, SP Oti while putting the record straight in a statement he signed and obtained by CrimeWorld confirmed the erring officers had been identified and taken into custody for trial in accordance with Police Act adding that the team was actually from Ipakodo Base while Inspector Jude Akhoyemta was never with the gullible team.  The statement stated in parts: “In line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police Lagos State the command hereby informs the general public that further inquiry into the allegation of harassment of one Emmanuel James Ibe Anyanwu by SARS operatives at Ago Palaceway Okota revealed the true identities of the officers involved in the highly regrettable incident. The officer numbering five are from the Ipakodo Base of the SARS and not the Ikeja Unit as was previously reported. The names of the Policemen are Inspector Taiwo Omojope, Inspector Arigidi Ibibor, Sergeant Rotimi Adesola, Olalekan Olakunle and Friday Oni. They are currently undergoing interrogation at the Command’s X-Squad section and would be matched before an adjudication officer at the Police provost department for the commencement of their orderly room trial. Meanwhile Inspector Jude Akhoyemta earlier mentioned in the matter was found to be innocent.”
