A 20 year old bus conductor-turned armed robbery has been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad RRS of the Lagos State Police Command around the Adeniji Adele end of the Third Mainland Bridge. The suspect who was identified as Rilwan Wasiu was reportedly spotted by RRS operatives beating his girlfriend at about 10.00pm and had stopped to intervene when a toy gun suddenly fell from his pocket. The development was said to have attracted the curiosity of the operatives who promptly took into custody for interrogation. Sources said Oyo State born initially denied ownership of the toy gun but buckled after ‘a further and better interrogation’ adding that he belongs to a three man gang which specialized in robbing stranded motorists with toy guns. He gave the names of his accomplices as Messrs Salami and Sakiru; stressing that they work as bus conductors in the day but as robbers at night especially, along the Third Mainland Bridge. The Police public relations officer, SP Chike Oti who confirmed the arrest praised the operatives of the RRS for their diligence maintaining that incidences of armed robberies along the Third Mainland Bridge had nosedived tremendously following massive deployment of Police personnel to the area by CP Edgal Imohimi and added that the suspect had since been moved to the Federal Special Armed Robbery Squad FSARS for more interrogations and possible prosecution.
