A notorious armed robber who had been jailed twice for similar offence of armed robbery who identified himself as Usman Hakeem Fashola, aka Awolowo has again been arrested alongside three of his sidekicks by Police detectives attached to the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad FSARS, Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja Lagos. When asked if he was related to the immediate past governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Power, works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, Hakeem simply said “Fashola is our family name and Awolowo is my alias while my own name is Usman Hakeem.” Sources said the bandits were had been terrorizing residents of Sango Otta and environs for some time now before the curtains dropped on them recently. The Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who paraded the suspects while briefing newsmen on the achievements so far recorded by his officers and men said the arrest followed an intelligence operation carried out on January 5, 2018 after a tip-off. The Police boss said that his men first arrested one Oluwaseun Michael aged 38 somewhere in Iju area of Sango Otta, Ogun State adding that his confessional statement led to the rounding up of his sidekicks. CP Edgal gave the names of other suspects arrested with Fashola as Messrs Opeyemi Oni and Oyeniyi Olaotan adding, “The suspects confessed that they were ex-convicts. A search conducted at their hideouts in Sango Otta led to the recovery of a single barreled locally made pistol cut to size. We have therefore, launched a manhunt against other members of the gang who are currently on the run and I can assure members of the press and the good people of Lagos that they will be rounded up within the shorted possible time.”
When CrimeWorld sought to know why he (Usman Hakeem Fashola went back to armed robbery after being jailed and freed twice, the tall, very dark whose face dreads for being overwhelmed with scars of injuries simply said in Yoruba language; “It is the work of the devil. I have bad friends; that is why. I agreed that I had been jailed twice for armed robbery but this one that led to our arrest, we didn’t go for any robbery; it was my friend who I met in the prison that said since government had arrested and jailed us but God freed us twice, we should continue with the robbery. I am an auto-engineer (mechanic). We didn’t go for any operation even though we were planning to launch one the eve of Easter one Michael was arrest and they called my name since we all knew ourselves in the prison.”
