POLICE in Lagos have busted a cartel which specialized in bringing underage girls from the Southern part of the country to Lagos for the purpose of prostitution. Sources said the girls were aged between 15 and 18. The Commissioner of Police CP Imohimi Edgal who made this disclosure Tuesday while briefing newsmen on some of the laudable achievements of his officers and men said the revelation that some young girls who were supposed to be in the classrooms but camped in a hotel somewhere in Iyana-Ipaja as commercial sex workers followed a tip off. He said five persons including the man responsible for the undignified act had been arrested and would be prosecuted. Though the CP refused to parade the young girls and their coordinator, he said, “On March 10, 2018, the Command gathered intelligence which revealed that some persons running a prostitution ring in a hotel known as Collabor located at No, 3 Ige street Iyana Ipaja, Lagos with underage girls they brought to Lagos. Based on the intelligence, a team of Policemen from the Command and SARS Operatives stormed the location and arrested one Gory Asuguo, age 15 and she confessed that she was brought to Lagos some weeks ago and handed over to one Monica Ita 25 at the aforesaid address. This led t the arrest of other underage girls, namely Destiny Bassey 19, and Bright 18.”
Continuing, CP Edgal said, “Meanwhile, the coordinator of the prostitution ring, one Thomas Emmanuel 29, and Okon John 34 were also arrested. The case would be charged to court at the completion of investigation.”
