TWO yet to be identified persons were Monday hacked to death and several others injured in Ejeshatedo area of Suru-lere, Lagos after rival cult members engaged themselves in a blood clash. One of the deceased persons was said to be a lecture with one of the tertiary institutions in the state. Property including cars parked along the major streets which monetary value had yet to be estimated were also destroyed in the fight which reports say lasted for several hours. However, a combined team of anti-riot Police from the Areas ‘D’  and ‘C’ reportedly raced to the community and restored normalcy adding that the warring cultist had made good their escape before the arrival of the law enforcement agents.

The cause of the clash was not yet known as of the time of filing this report but a source in the area said most of the cultists were former residents of the community who were on reprisal attack over the killing of one of their members about a year ago.

The Lagos State Police Command’s public relations officer, SP Chike Oti who confirmed the clash however, said the incident was caused by “expelled” residents of the community revenging their banishment. “I do not think it was a cult clash though, I am yet to get details of the incident. But from what I have been told, the incident was caused by expelled members of the community about four years ago whose influence was viewed inimical to the youths and have come to revenge their expulsion. I am not aware whether one of the deceased persons is a lecturer but only two people died. The Police are on top of the game to bring perpetrators to book. As I speak with you now, normalcy has been restored to the community,” he said.
