WIFE of the Inspector-General of Police Princess Asmua Idris has urged Policemen across the nation to empower their wives saying they complement their husbands at times of emergency. The Police boss wife who doubles as the automatic President of the Police Officers Wives Association POWA was in Lagos on a two day official visit during which some project emplaced by POWA Lagos branch under the chairmanship of wife of Commissioner of Police Lagos State were commissioned. She said women are mothers of the nation adding added that when a woman is empowered, the nation is by extension, being empowered. Some of the projects include a borehole sunk by Mrs. Mary Edgal and Environmental Sanitation at the highway the Barracks along the Mobolaji Bank Anthony way all in Ikeja. According to her, “When you empower women, you empower a generation. When women are empowered, they would be able to assist their husband, take care of the families at times of emergencies. This is the ideal of POWA as an organization.” Hajia Idris who commended Mrs. Mary Edgal for her modest achievements within the shorted period in office as chair person of POWA Lagos said was encourage by the giant stride empowerment efforts of the state’s Commissioner of Police wife adding that she would take the message to Abuja and other states for an emulation “Let me commend out able chair person in person of Mrs. Mary Edgal for her vision for POWA. I am particularly impressed by her programme within this short period of assumption of office. I will take the message to Abuja and urge our various chair persons to emulate.”
Princess Idris who urged POWA members across the country who are well to do empower one another said empowerment that would impress on the wellbeing of members would be encouraged. She later handed over some grinding machines and household equipment to some beneficiary members urging them to make judicious use of them.
Reacting, the chair person of Lagos POWA, Mrs. Mary Edgal who was visibly overwhelmed by encomiums poured on her by Princess Idris said she her entrant into the association was facilitated by Mrs. Manko adding that what she has done and would do in future for the association was based on the tutorials she got from her. She further stated that her mission is to bestow quality life through empowerment to members “I am highly honoured as the chair person as Lagos POWA to host our mummy, Princess Asmua Idris, the President of POWA. She is a mother, a role model and what a real woman should be. I pray that the Almighty God should continue to guide, protect and strengthen her as she continues with the good deeds of POWA empowerment programme. Let me particularly appreciate another mummy, Mrs. Manko who brought me into POWA. So whatever I have done and will do as the chair person of Lagos POWA is as a result of words of encouragement and wisdom received from her. So to her goes the glory of all that I am doing as far as this association is concerned.
Continuing, Mrs. Edgal said, “I must say that it has been at the front burner of my administration to enhance the quality of life of our members and also members of Police wives generally. The POWA’s vision is to be an effective sustainable organization that actively enhances the quality of life of women and children of the Police and serve as a recognize resource for community partnership and conflict resolution and youth empowerment.”
