THERE was pandemonium Saturday, at the Kastina GRA residence of former Inspector-General of Police IGP, Alhaji Ibrihim Coomassie after unknown gunmen stormed his resident at the sprawling GRA area of the State and sporadically opened fire at the main gate of the building; apparently wanting to gain entry into the premises. It was not clear whether the hoodlums were armed robbers or hired assassins but sources said the two Policemen who were on guard duty as of the time of incident rose to the challenge and repelled the invading bandits. At the end of the cross fire which it was learnt, lasted for about 10 minutes, a Police Sergeant whose identity could not be immediately ascertained was feared gunned down while his rifle was carted away by the gunmen. The second Police man was also said to have sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter. CrimeWorld weekly newspaper was told that both the former Police boss and his family were inside unhurt during the invasion adding that the slain Sergeant and the wounded one had been taken to the Kastina General hospital for autopsy and medical attention respectively.
Frantic effort to get the reaction of the Kastina State Command’s Commissioner of Police CP Besen Dabaya Gwana was not successful as of the time of filing this report but the image make of the Command, DSP Isa Gambo told our correspondent that investigation had commenced with a view to unearthing perpetrators. “I am yet to get full details of the incident but I can assure you that investigation has commenced and perpetrators will be apprehend within the short possible time ,” he said.
