…Police kill 2, rescue victims

THE dexterity of Police detectives attached to the Abia State Police Command in arms handling was put to test Tuesday, July 19, 2017 by a gang of dare devil kidnappers after a fierce gun battle for the liberation of a kidnapped victim.
Sources said the four man kidnap gang which had been terrorizing the state for some time now however, met their waterloo after they kidnapped the Director of a three star hotel in Aba, the commercial nerve center of state for a ransom. According to sources, the Commissioner of Police CP Leye Oyebade who was apparently irked by the nauseating activities of the kidnappers mandated his officers and men to ensure the decapitation of this syndicate forthwith.
It was hinted that the Divisional Police Officer DPO of Omoba Division whose jurisdiction the kidnap took place consequently mobilized and led his men to the kidnappers’ den somewhere in Umuajuju Ovungwu, Isiala Ngwa local government area of the state where a breathtaking shootout with the hoodlums ensued.
At the end of the gun battle for about thirty minutes, two members of the gang were gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds. The victim identified as Onyemaechi Mbamaonyeukwu Ijeoma was liberated unhurt while his Nissan Infinity Jeep on which he was kidnapped the previous night was also recovered.
The Police public relations officer of the Command, DSP Ogbonna Geoffery who confirmed the incident quoted CP Oyebade as saying that Police detectives had launched a manhunt for the fleeing members of the notorious gang with a vow to ensure that Aba was safe for social and business activities.
According to him, “A four man Armed Kidnap syndicate who has been terrorizing Aba and its environs has been smashed by Detectives attached to Omoba Division on July 19, 2017 at Ovungwu, Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area Abia State.
The syndicate had on July 18, 2017 in Osisioma Ngwa abducted one Onyemaechi Mbamaonyeukwu Ijeoma, the Managing Director of Mba Hotels Aba in his ash colour Nissan Infinity Jeep with Reg. No. GWA 807 DH and held him hostage in an uncompleted building at Umuajuju Ovungwu, Isiala Ngwa South LGA while negotiating for ransom.
On a tip off, the Detectives led by their DPO, swooped on the hoodlums’ den where the gang opened fire on sighting them. During a shootout, two of the Kidnappers later identified as Nwadibia and Monday were gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds.
The victim was rescued unhurt and one of the Detectives sustained some injuries. Items recovered include the victim’s Nissan Infinity Jeep, two motorcycles and four GSM phones. The injured Detective is responding to treatment while the victim has been reunited with his family and man-hunt for the fleeing members of the gang continues.
Members of the public are enjoined to volunteer information to the Police or any other Security Agency on anyone found with bullet wounds.”
