LAGOS– THE Lagos State commissioner of Police CP Crack Squad lead by CSP Adams Uba has busted a syndicate of car snatchers in the state and arrested two of them. One of the suspects, ThankGod Keshi David a mechanical engineering graduate from Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria said to be the kingpin was arrested in Lagos while trying to sell a snatched Toyota Highlander and the criminal receiver, Samuel Durojaiye, a Yagba East, Kogi born Computer graduate from Kogi Polytechnic was tracked and arrested in his house in Kogi state.
Five posh cars including Venza, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corrola and Highlander were recovered from them. The suspects confessed to the crime but pleaded for mercy. The kingpin, ThankGod David told the Guardian that he does not snatch cars at gunpoint instead, as a mechanical engineer, he repairs your car, pretents to want to test drive it and disappears with it. He then drives it to Samuel Durojaiye in Kogi state who would buy it at a cheaper rate, change all the necessary documents of the car including the number plate and repainting before being sold at exorbitant rate.
At another point, he would sought and get a driving job adding that after dropping his employer at his work place, he would drive the vehicle to the same Samuel who would as usual, give him peanuts, refurbish the car and sell at the prevailing market price. Samuel Durojaiye confessed that so far, he had received five cars from ThankGod adding that those he received from other members of the syndicate had yet to be recovered.
Frantic efforts to get the reaction of the command’ PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin was not successful but a police source close to his office said the suspects would soon be charged to court at the end of investigation adding that the so far recovered vehicles were being kept at the Gbagada office of the Crack Squad.
