ASABA- THE seeming rebound of crimes and criminality in Delta State seemed not be giving the new Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass any sleepless night as the Command has continued to record tremendous achievements within the short period of assuming office. CP Abass who cut his teeth in operational policing in Lagos state said with his intelligence based and community policing model, it would have been better for all the criminals to relocate from the state or be relocated to hell. He said he was in Delta State to fight crimes to a standstill with a view to ensuring that the state maintains its status of the hub of socio-economic activities in the Niger Delta region.
To give a bite to his avowal to fighting crimes, CP Abass told his officers and men that only those who were prepared to wok assiduously would work with him adding that the indolent would be shown the way out. He maintained that he was prepared to sustained the excellent works of his predecessor and improve upon with a view to making the good people of Delta sleep with their two eyes closed. Two days after he resumed office, the command recording tremendous achievement with the arrest of suspected armed robbers and recovery of cache of arms and ammunition.
A statement by the Command’s PRO, DSP Bright Edafe made available to CrimeWorld magazine online states that “The Commissioner of Police Delta state command, CP Wale Abass, addressed officers and men of the command stating that, it is very pertinent for all officers to carry out their duties diligently, he also said that only result oriented officers will retain their offices. A few days after his assumption of duty in the command, his operational strategies are already yielding results. On 09/05/2023 at about 2000hrs, the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y Mahmud led the divisional anti-crime patrol team out on visibility and confidence building patrol, to curtail the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers in Warri and its environs. During the patrol, the team intercepted a tricycle along Eagle roundabout by Ugunu bridge, conveying three occupants and subjected them to a search, during the search, thirty (30) rounds of 7.62 AK47 live ammunition were recovered from two of the passengers namely; Eddy Aboyowa (m) age 37years, and Akpani Isaiah (m) age 35years, both of Eyiejuku street off Deco road, Warri. Suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.”

In an earlier development, the command’s Decoy squad received an intelligence report on a syndicate that supplies cartridges to kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists. The operatives led by the commander Decoy squad, ASP Julius Robinson embarked on a sting operation, at about 0940hrs of 8th may 2023, and arrested one Chinedu Enenmo ‘m’ 37yrs of Akere Ogidi, Ogbaru LGA Anambra state at their hideout in one of the popular hotel in Asaba, where they hibernate and carry out their nefarious activities, and recovered two hundred and fifty (250) rounds of live cartridges from the suspect. During the course of investigation, the suspect gave useful information about his accomplice and led the operatives to Fegge area of Onitsha in Anambra State where one Donatus Ndukan ‘m’ 34yrs of Urom community in Awka-North LGA of Anambra State whom he described as his boss in the business was also arrested. Both suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing
The Commissioner of police Delta state Command, CP Wale Abass psc, while commending the team for their efforts, also admonished them not to relent as more is expected of them. He assures Deltans and residents in the state of his resolute in the fight against crime and criminality while calling for cooperation from members of the public especially during stop and search, that though it may inconvenience road users, it is generally for the collective good of the people and the State. He admonished them to help the police to police them by monitoring their environments and report any suspicious persons or movement within their areas.
Continuing, DSP Edafe added, ”The Delta Police Command foils kidnap attempt, arrested suspected kidnappers and armed robbers and recovers 49 rounds of 7.62 AK 47 ammunition and two pump action guns. This incident happened on the 10/05/2023 at about 2240hrs while ‘B’ Division Ughelli patrol team was on anti-crime patrol along Agbarha-Ughelli Road, they were overtaken in a suspicious manner by a Qlink motorcycle with Reg. no. SKL 554 VD with three (3) male occupants. They were given a hot chase, during which the three men hurriedly abandoned the motorcycle and fled into the bush, leaving behind their motorcycle and a bag. When the bag was searched, one (1) pump action gun loaded with two (2) live cartridges, forty-nine (49) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered along with the motorcycle. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are in place to apprehend fleeing suspects. And on 11/05/2023 at about 1102hrs while operatives of Eagle-Net were on patrol along Oreorokpe-Sapele road, they intercepted a commercial mini bus for a routine search. During the search, they recovered a locally made single barrel gun with five (05) live cartridges concealed in the bag found in possession of one Diarhe Oghenemarho ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Okpara inland waterway community, Ethiope East LGA. The suspect was arrested and taken to the police station. During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed that he belongs to the notorious Eiye confraternity cult group and that his syndicate has been terrorizing Warri and Ughelli axis. He also confessed to be a member of an armed robbery/kidnapping gang, and his gang leader is one David Oghotomo Mathew a.k.a “cucumber”. The suspect and exhibits are in custody while investigation is ongoing.”

In a related development, the command recorded a massive success in the ongoing fight against crime in the state and arrested suspected kidnappers, cultists and recovered one locally made berretta pistol, one revolver pistol, two double barrel guns, two pump action guns, sixteen rounds of live cartridges and two suspected stolen vehicles. CP Wale Abass while commending the operatives for job well done reiterates the Command’s commitment to an effective, intelligence driven, and community based policing to ensure that Deltans sleep with two eyes closed. This recent achievement was Sequel to the kidnap of Mr. and Mrs. Okutonye Efetobore on 27/04/2023 in Ughellli town, and a ransom of one million naira was paid before their release, the Commissioner of Police Delta state, CP Wale Abass, directed the Command Decoy squad to embark on an intelligence led investigation and ensure that the kidnappers are arrested and brought to book. In compliance with the CP’s directive, on 11/05/2023, at about 2315hrs, operatives of the command Decoy squad led by the commander, Asp Julius Robinson acting on credible intelligence gathered, embarked on a sting operation and arrested one Emmanuel James ‘m’ aged 32yrs of Otor-Udu, Ughelli South LGA, who is suspected to be the leader of the gang. On 12/05/2023, at about 0230hrs, the suspect led the operatives to Ejewu community, Udu LGA and arrested the syndicate driver, one Ejiro Peter ‘m’ aged 25yrs, a native of Kokori community in Ethiope East LGA.

They confessed to their involvements in series of armed robbery, kidnapping operations in Ughelli and Warri which includes the kidnap of Mr. and Mrs Okutonye Efetobore on 27/04/2023, at ughellli town and a ransom of one million naira (#1,000,000.00) was paid before the couple was released. On 12/05/2023, the suspects led the operatives to another notorious member of their criminal gang whose real name is unknown but fondly called “oh lord” at Egbike area in Udu. The suspect, upon sighting the police, engaged them in a gun duel and escaped through the ceiling of his apartment with bullet injuries. When his apartment was searched, a bag containing a locally fabricated pistol and three (03) rounds of 7.62 AK47 live ammunition were recovered. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing. Also, On 05/05/2023, at about 1730hrs, operatives of the Command State Anti Cult Unit (SACU), while on a joint operation with Dragon patrol, safer highway, raiders squad, RRS at Afisere /Ughelli, they arrested the duo of Tega Precious’ m’ aged 28 yrs and Ebi Marvellous ‘m’ aged 27 yrs, one revolver pistol two live ammunition were recovered from them. Suspects confessed to be members of Neo black movement (NBM) cult group.

The suspects led the operatives to their hideout, where two pump action guns, two double barrel guns, one single barrel gun, and sixteen live cartridges, were recovered. Manhunt for the other members of the gang is ongoing. The Command recorded another success on 12/5/2023 in Agbarho when operatives of Agbarho Police station were on stop and search duty when they sighted a red GLK Mercedes benz and flagged down the vehicle, the suspect on sighting the Police quickly highlighted from the Benz GLK 350 with reg. number WWR 441 MD and escaped into the bush. The vehicle was recovered to the station and searched during which, a phone number which turned out to be the phone number of owner of the vehicle was seen, and when he was contacted, he confirmed that the car was stolen from him at gun point on 11/5/2023. Similarly, on 11/5/2023 at about 1300 hours, operatives of Dragon 19 and 20, while on stop and search duty along Ughelli-Patani expressway, flagged down a Toyota camry with reg no. ABC 810 DK, the suspect jumped out from the vehicle and escaped into the bush. The vehicle was recovered, and investigations so far revealed that it was snatched at gun point on 10/5/2023 in Sapele. Manhunt for the suspects is ongoing. The Commissioner of Police Delta State command, CP Wale Abass, assures residents that the command will be working round the clock to ensure that anyone terrorizing the state will be arrested and brought to justice.
