LAGOS– THE Nigerian Customs Services NCS Murtala Muhammed International Airport MMIA Command says it has generated over seven billion naira as revenue in three months.

The Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Malami Gidado who dropped this hint described the month of November as productive adding that the Command raked in over one billion naira as revenue in the month alone.

A statement by the Command’s PRO, Juliana Destiny Tomo made available to the Guardian on Saturday says the noticeable increase in revenue generation was traceable to the charismatic leadership of the CAC, Gidado; maintaining that Comptroller Gidado was recently bestowed with the coveted award of Excellence in Delligence Merit Award by stakeholders in the industry.

Tomo added, “The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Malami Gidado on Thursday 08 December, 2022 stated, that, the Month of November 2022 is another productive month in the annals of Murtala Muhammed International AirportCommand. The sum of One Billion, Nine Hundred and Fifty Nine Million, Four Hundred and Seventy one Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira and Nineteen Kobo (₦1,959,471,750.19) only was revenue collected in November 2022.

In this November review, the Command recorded a significant increase of Three Hundred and Fifty Million, Five Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand, Seventy Six Naira and Twenty Four kobo (₦350,535,076.24) only in the revenue collected compared to that of October 2022. This revenue statement was made two days after one of the MMIA, Nigeria Customs Service stakeholders honored Malami Gidado with the “Excellence in Diligence Merit Award.

In one hundred days, the Command collected the sum of Seven billion, eighteen million, Seven hundred and forty two thousand, Four hundred and Fifty Five naira and Twenty Eight kobo (₦7,018,742,455.28) only. The sum of Six billion, Seven hundred and sixty three million, Nine hundred and Seventy nine thousand, Two hundred and Seventy Naira and Sixty Two kobo (₦6,763,979, 270.62) only was the revenue collected within same period in 2021.

After taking over the mantle of leadership of the Command, the command is gradually recording a greater success to the glory of God Almighty. In pursuance of the Nigeria Customs Service mandate which includes Interception of contrabands, examination of travelers and their baggage, cargo and mails; assessment and collection of Customs duty and other statutory taxes on goods and services as well as protecting businesses against illegal trade malpractices with the application of extant laws such as Sections 150 and 161 of the Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C45 Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 ( CEMA CAP C45 LFN 2004) for the smooth running of the command.

Continuing, Tomo stressed, “Malami Gidado, CAC Murtala Muhammed International Airport Commandrecorded a greater success through a “Seamless Clearance Procedure” ofpassengers’ accompanied and unaccompanied baggage. The CAC enjoined sister agencies at the MMIA to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensureblockage of all possible avenues that may result in revenue leakages. The CAC in October this year assured and still assuring all voluntary compliance persons a good travel experience in the clearance of their shipment and would like to make known to the public today Thursday 08 December, 2022 that there has been a positive difference in the integrity of passengers’ declaration of goodsin the preceding Month (November 2022) under review. Once again, we assure all voluntary compliance persons a good travel experienceand friendlier clearance procedure of their shipment.”
