ABUJA- WHEREAS, the nation nay, the Nigerian Army is still mourning some of its soldiers attached to the President Muhammadu Buhari’s 7 Brigade of Guard Battalion killed in the Sunday bloody encounter with terrorists, one of the wounded soldiers who participated actively in the fierce gun battle has come up to say that they were the one who actually took the war to the terrorists’ zone.
He said but for the fact that their gun truck and APC could not navigate through the bush that the terrorists were, there wouldn’t have been any causality. In his recorded voice obtained by CrimeWorld Magazine online, the soldier who refused to mention his name but said he is still receiving treatment at the National Hospital Abuja said the encounter was hell to behold. According to him, “It is not a joke, it is not a joke at all. The issue is that the bandits wrote the Law School in Bwari that they were coming to attack it, so immediately that letter was received, the school authority informed our Battalion, which is the 7 Guard Brigade, so we went there and started all round deployment and we thought that these people who said they are coming to attack law school may have plan B, that they might have a prominent target that they may come for as well and that happens to be one Verita’s University, very close to Law school, about 3.2 kilometers, so we went there also to create an all round defence.
So we have been there for over two weeks now before this attack came up on Sunday. A night preceding Sunday, that on a Saturday night, we noticed that at that Verita’s University, they normally observe touch lights in the bush and we were wondering who are these people always point touch lights at night in the bush, we then asked the security men of the school whether that is how they normally observe touch light in the bush and they said no, so we said no problem.
Then in the morning of that Sunday, we had to advance into the bush, I was there not that I was told. Right in the bush, we saw where they smoked, killed goat and ate and did all sorts of things, then we concluded that these people must be in this bush. So we called for backup and they brought artillery team, APC, gun trucks and there was a re-enforcement and we advanced deep into the bush.
But we got to a place where there was water and some rocks and the gun truck could no longer navigate through, so we had to pack the APC, gun trucks and went into the bush with our Ak47 rifles; before God and man that was why we had causalities. We had thought that they may not be more than 20 or 30 enemies so we felt we could overrun them. So while advancing into the bush, we didn’t know that they had seen us, they now laid down, laid ambush for us waiting for us to entire their trap, and oh, my brother it was serious. They engaged us, my brother they engaged like this from left and right, look; they really, really engaged us.
We lost 4 soldiers in my Unit, we were three Units that went into the bush, 177 and 102 from keffi and my Unit which is the 7 Guard Brigade Battalion. They fully dislodged us, they shelled Mortar, their IED, but we still managed and killed about 12 of them but they succeeded by killing one Captain, one Lieutenant, and two soldiers while the rest Units lost one soldier each as well.
For now I don’t think they are still in that bush again, they have all gone through the Kaduna route. It was not a small attack o, later we went and took our gun truck and turned to block them at the front, it was not easy. As I am talking to you now I am in National hospital Abuja but we just blessed God for everything. It is not as if they had the mind to face us, they knew that we were in that school, assuming there were no soldiers in that law school, they would have gone there and scatter the school since.
They were only waiting for the right time to strike. At the law school, we mounted there as if it was our barracks, we turned it to a duty post, 10 soldiers there every day, with gun truck, yes that was how were doing it till we eventually saw the touch light that night before we now advanced into the bush to confront them. So, but because they knew we were coming, they were ready for us and they did their worst. Aside from what I have told you now, if you hear any other thing outside it is a lie. They only thing we need now is prayers, you guys should just be helping us with prayers. That is all.”
