ABUJA- OFFICIAL and social activities at the Police Service Commission PSC were brought to an abrupt end Thursday at the federal secretariat Abuja after staff of the commission took to the Street protesting what they described as irreconcilable corruption endemic in the commission since Alhaji Musliu Smith took over as chairman.
The protesters mostly junior and middle cadre staff, who took the Senior staff of the commission unawares, locked out the Permanent Secretary, Williams Alo and other Commissioners and Directors chanting anti- Musliu Smith’ song.
Discrete checks by CrimeWorld Magazine online revealed that the staff were protesting against lopsidedness in the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 policemen, stagnated promotion and nepotism among other things
Some of the protesters who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity described the present administration of President Muhammad Buhari as clueless in appointing Alhaji Smith as chairman of the Commission having failed as an Inspector General of Police.

“We blame this government for everything. It is true that it is clueless as widely said otherwise, why will a man who for the first time in the history of Nigeria headed the Nigeria Police Force and its staff went on strike and protest. “Continuing, they added, “Since Smith came in as chairman the only legacy to his credit is nepotism and lopsided promotion. Staff welfare is zero and that was happened in 2001 when he was IGP the rank and file went on strike for the first time. It is the same man the Buhari administration sees qualified to head the PSC. He must go!”
It was not possible to get the reactions of Ikechukwu Ani, the public relations and media officer of the commission as of the time of this report but a source close to his office said senior staff of the commission were already in a marathon meeting with a view to addressing some of the issues raised by the protesting staff.
