WARRI- A gang of heavily armed robbers Thursday, hit the brick wall in their ambush of a second generation bank’s bullion van as crack Police operatives engaged them in a fierce gun duel forcing them to beat a retreat.
Sources said the hoodlums who thought the bullion van that was heading to Asaba from Warri had already loaded cash, ambushed the escort men and a cross fire ensured during which they bowed to the superior firepower of the Police and fled in diverse directions with bullet wounds.
A statement from the Delta Police Command’s PRO DSP Bright Adafe made available to CrimeWorld magazine online which confirmed the ambush and the fact that no life was lost and money was stolen as the van was empty, said manhunt for bullet wound persons across the state had been launched with a view to cracking those behind the ambush.
He said, “On 27/01/2022 at about 1045hrs, Policemen on UBA Special Escort from Warri to Asaba were ambushed by heavily armed hoodlums numbering about ten in two Seinna Vehicles along Ughelli/Ozoro Expressway, Otor-Owhe while they were on their way to transport cash from Asaba to Warri. In the ensued gun duel, one Policeman and the driver of the bullion van were injured. However, no live was lost but some of the hoodlums were fatally injured and were taken away by their gang members while the Bullion Van was recovered and taken to the Police station.
