EKITI- THREE persons including a Police Mobile office, MOPOL, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC and a civilian were killed Monday afternoon after a gang of heavily armed robbers invaded WEMA bank located in Aromoko, the headquarters of Ekiti West LGA.
The amount carted away by the dare devil armed gang had yet to be ascertained but a source which described it as huge amount said they came into the banking hall having blown open the security gate with dynamite and made straight to the vault.
Said a source, “The robbers arrived at the Wema bank, situated in the heart of the town, at about 5 p.m. and shot in the air to scare away people. Thereafter, They forced their way into the banking hall with dynamite and carted away a huge amount of money in ‘Ghana must go bag. The shooting was so intense that residents and passersby scampered in diverse direction to safety.”
It was not possible to get the reaction of the state Police Command as of the time of the report but a source disclosed that about 30 minutes after the operation, some Policemen raced to the scene adding that they were the ones who evacuated the corpses from the ground.
