POISED at ensuring even coverage of Lagos State to forestall all manner of crime and criminality, the Commissioner of Police Imohim Edgal has directed the immediate take- over of the moribund and decrepit building of Imakiyo Police post Ejibgo by operatives of the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad FSARS. The recent directive sources hinted, followed reports of criminal activities in some flashpoints and hideouts after the Divisional Police Officer DPO CSP Olabisi Okuwobi and her men successfully raided several deadly hideouts used by cultists and sundry criminals in the area. Informed Police sources who said the CP was appreciative of the successful raids and arrest of over 50 cultists and had since commended the DPO for the rare feat however, said the Division needs a backup to be able to successfully tackle the menace of cultists and cult-related activities in the densely populated community. The Police boss however, warned operatives of the new FSARS base to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement warning that the Police under his watch would not tolerate incivility, illegal arrest and detention of innocent persons and corruption adding that their activities would directly be monitored by the DPO Ejigbo Division and report same to him.
In the meantime, the recent onslaught against cultists in Ejigbo community by the newly deployed DPO, CSP Bisi Okuwobi has been greeted with encomiums from both community leaders and traditional rulers alike. Some of them who spoke to us on condition of anonymity praised the DPO for doing what successive men could not venture saying, “It is true that what a man can do, a woman can do even better; this woman DPO has reiterated this age long aphorism. Those Agbole, criminal hideouts notorious for cult activities raided by the new Police team led by the DPO was something that her predecessors avoided for whatever reason. We are happy for her and the zeal exhibited in ensuring an enduring peace in our community. As we speak, most of the bad boys who normally rob innocent passersby and dispossess them of their belongings including cash have gone underground, while other have fled the community. Our prayer is that the power that be should allow her stay a little longer with us so that we can continue to enjoy this palpable peace that had eluded us for long,” chorused the community leaders.
But the Ejigbo monarch, the Oojon of Ejigbo, HRH Oba Morufu Ojoola who also commended the DPO for her diligence said the task of policing a community or a nation for that matter should not be made the sole responsibility of the Police Force alone, saying stakeholders, community leaders and well meaning individuals must be part and parcel of policing network. He therefore pledged his full support and cooperation with the new Police boss in the community adding that part of his responsibilities had been to assist the Division with logistics and refurbishment of dysfunctional patrol vehicles and would extend same gesture to the new DPO. Responding, the DPO, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi who was visibly full of appreciation thanked the Ejigbo monarch for his continued support and prayers stressing that her elevation to the status as DPO was divinely. She said she was not new to the assistance and fatherly prayers from the royal father saying she was witness to all of these while serving as the DCO of the same Division. While assuring that she would put in her best as the DPO Ejigbo, the Ogun State born public relations personified officer urged the royal father to continue to talk to the youth on the need to eschew cant especially, cultism the illegal association does no other thing than doom.
