SACKED personal driver to Hon. Anthony Oworu, a member of House of Representatives, Mohammed Sani, a 60 year old man identified also as Babangida Haru and 20 others tormentors of residents and passengers on Niger, Abuja – Kaduna highways have been arrested by Police detectives attached to the Special Tactical Unit for being possession of varying dangerous weapons. The suspects who were arrested at their various hideouts in the thick forests of Kaduna and Niger States were reported to be responsible for several kidnappings for ransom, armed robberies and sundry crimes along the Niger-Abuja Kaduna highways. The Force public relations officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood who paraded the 22 suspects with a cache of arms and ammunition recovered from them said the onslaught against these enemies of society followed the kidnap one Zainab Yakubu at Ikara LGA of Kaduna State on the February 2, 2018 adding that the victim was released after collecting the sum of two hundred and ifty thousand Naira as ransom. ACP Moshood gave the names of the affected suspects as Messrs Muktar Abdulmalik aka Militar/AK47, 28, Suraju Abubakar Umar Jagaba, 35, Aminu Shehu, 27, Mohammed Sani, 30, Gang leader Isah Garba, 60 and Babaginda Haruna, 35. Others are Musa Juli, 29, Sani Maiwada, 40, Sani Umar, 25, Maigari Mohammed, 32, Samaila Auta, 30, Ja’afaru Idi aka Goodluck, 20, Suleiman Adam A.K.A Gonda, 20, Yahaya Rabiu aka Ruwaiji, 21, Isah Adamu aka Magaji, 21, Abdulmumini Ibrahim aka Officer, 20, Bashir Suleiman, 32, Nura Ahmed , 27, Ali Daniel, 31, Godwin Awoke, 30 and Abdullahi Abubakar , 33.
The exhibits recovered from the suspects according to the Force image maker include 3 AK49 Rifles, 10 AK47 Rifles, 20 Pump Action guns, 2 double barrel guns, 20 locally made Dane guns, 1 locally made revolver pistol using AK47 Ammunition,184 AK47 Ammunition and one Peugeot 407 Saloon Car stolen from an Honourable Member, Federal House of Representatives.
Classifying the suspects according the groups crimes committed the Force image maker attributed the success to the renewed vigour against crimes and criminality along the aformetioned highways in particualer and the country in general adding that the entire idea was predicated on the express orders by the Inspector-Genral of Polcie IGP Ibrahim Idris to all the commissioner of Police across the country and their supersising Assistant Inspector-Genral of Police AIGs to ensure safe and virile environs for the citizenry. According to ACP Moshood, “The first gang was made up of Muktar Abdulmalik aka Military AK 47, 28 and Suraju Abubakar, 40. This gang is a vicious, notorious and responsible for kidnappings, armed robbery and several car snatchings in Niger, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Zamfara States. The gang leader Murktar Abdulmalik a.k.a Military AK47 was arrested on March 23, 2018 at Numbwa town in Gurara LGA of Niger State after exchange of gun fire with the Special Tactical Squad personnel attached to Operation Absolute Sanity that lasted about an hour before he was overpowered and arrested. An AK47 Rifle and 40 rounds of AK47 ammunition were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, he confessed to have participated in more than 10 robbery attacks on innocent people in FCT, Niger and Kaduna States, and admitted that his gang has also snatched at gun point more than 8 Exotic Cars. He further confessed to the killing of one of his gang member Murktar Zubairu who he claimed was an ex-Civil Defence Officer before he killed him and buried his corpse in a shallow grave in a location in Niger State after a disagreement on the sharing formula of their loot in one of the robbery operations. The second gang is also made up of Messrs Umar Jagaba, 35, Aminu Shehu, 27. This gang is linked to the notorious and vicious Lawal Kwali who is a kidnapping, armed robbery, car snatching and cattle rustling kingpin recently arrested by the Police in Niger State. The two suspects confessed to be responsible for killing one Alh. Mohammadu Wanfu, who was kidnapped and killed in November 2017 in Shiroro LGA of Niger State. The third gang who deals on illegal firearms are Messrs Mohammed Sani, 30 – Gang leader, Isah Garba, 60, Babaginda Haruna, 35, Musa Juli, 29, Sani Maiwada, 40, Sani Umar, 25, Maigari Mohammed 32, Samaila Auta, 30y. The arrest of this gang members followed an actionable intelligence during which they were trailed and arrested in Niger and Nasarawa States and in their possession, the Police team recovered 3 AK49 Rifles, 3 AK49 Rifles, 9 AK47 rifles, 20 pump action guns, 20 double barrel guns, 20 locally made Dane guns, one locally made revolver pistol using AK47 ammunition, one hundred and Forty-Four AK47 Ammunition. The leader of the gang claimed to have inherited the AK49 rifles from his late elder brother, one Alh. Tukur (deceased). Investigation is being intensified to arrest other members of the gang at large. Continuing, ACP Moshood said, the fourth gang are Messrs Ja’afaru Idi aka Goodluck 20, Suleiman Adam aka Gonda, 20, Yahaya Rabiu Aaka Ruwaiji 21, Isah Adamu Magaji, 21, Abdulmumini Ibrahim aka Officer 20. This gang was responsible for the kidnap for ransom of one Zainab Yakubu at Ikara LGA of Kaduna State on the February 2, 2018. The victim was released after they collected the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira as ransom. On receipt of the complaint after the victim regained freedom, the Special Tactical Squad personnel trailed and arrested the five suspects earlier mentioned. They confessed to the crime and admitted that they shared Fifty Thousand (N50,000)Naira each from the ransom collected from the victim. The last gang members is made up of Bashir Suleiman, 32, Nura Ahmed, 27, Ali Daniel, 31, Godwin Awoke, 30 and Abdullahi Abubakar, 33. The gang members were arrested for several Cars snatching at gun points. They confessed to have been responsible for car snatchings and stealing of cars from where packed in the FCT, Niger and Kaduna States. One of the suspects, who was previously a driver with Hon Anthony Oworu, a member of the Federal House of Representatives confessed to have stolen with the help of his gang members, a Peugeot 407 Saloon car belonging to the Hon. member. The car has been recovered by the Police and Investigation is being intensified to arrest other suspects at large. All the suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigations.”
