FOR his exceptional and inimitable display of humanitarianism, love for the down trodden and rare milk of humanity, the Anioma Prince, Honourable Ned Munir Nwoko has clinched CrimeWorld’s most coveted honour as the philanthropist extra-ordinaire award recipient of the year, 2017.  The event which took place at the prestigious banquet hall of the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja Lagos on December 7, 2017 was the official public presentation of CrimeWorld; Nigeria’s first and only wholly crime and security magazine and weekly newspapers which hit the newsstand nationwide since 2013. Other award recipients included but not limited to Sir (Dr) Mike Okiro, former Inspector-General of Police and present Chairman, Police Service Commission; for his role in modern intelligence policing in Nigeria and ‘his pupil’, Dr. Solomon Arase, Inspector-General of Police IGP (Retd); for re-echoing community-laced- intelligence policing in the country. Others are, His Excellencies, Deacon Udom Emmanuel Gabriel, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, for massive infrastructural development and security management, Dr. Ayodele Fayose, Executive Governor of Ekiti State, for his sclerotic stance on the menace of Fulani herdsmen and of course, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, for being the most security conscious Governor of the year, 2017.

Speaking on the yardstick for picking the award recipients especially, his kinsman, Hon, Ned Nwoko as deserving of the honour, Publisher/Editor-in-chief of CrimeWorld , Prince Albert Obiajulu Uba said it was based strictly on merit and empirical evidence of individual award recipients’ contributions to crime fighting in the country. The Criminologist further informed that CrimeWorld presently remains Nigeria’s first and only wholly crime and security newspapers and magazine with the core mission to expose and inform the general public of the crime situations across the country uncensored; adding that, “We decided to honour deserving Nigerians and institutions that have used their positions to fight crimes and criminality. Don’t forget that this is the maiden edition of Crimeworld Hallmark of Excellence Award and it is done to recognize Nigerians who live above board in their respective endeavours as well as those who have equally extended hands of fellowship to the havesnot with a view to reducing and or fighting crimes in society. If you check all our award recipients, you will agree with me that their actions or otherwise, tended towards fighting crimes and securing lives and property. For instance, if you sponsor the youths who ordinarily would be roaming the streets and become cogs in the wheel of progress in their immediate communities whether as an individual or government functionary, you are indirectly fighting crimes and criminality. That informed our choice of Nigerians honoured.

Continuing, the intrepid former Deputy Crime Editor of Vanguard newspapers said, “This award is devoid of pecuniary gains. With all sense responsibility, I have not met nearly all the award recipients save for the two retired IGs who we had worked together as a crime journalist for almost two decades in Vanguard newspapers. Same applied to Hon. Ned Nwoko. Even as a proud Anioma native, I have not met Hon. Nwoko in person, but I hope to meet him someday day. However, we hear and read of his philanthropy to the less privileged especially, youths’ empowerment ceaselessly on mainstream publications and the social media and that I think, was enough to earn our recognition.”
